UNICEF and ILO released covid-19 and child labour report

According to report the child labour had decreased by 94 million since 2000, but ongoing pandemic mein push million of children in the child labour

Main reason is poverty most vulnerable are migrant workers.

Most concerned with girls, gender inequalities with girls being the most honorable to exploitation in agriculture and domestic work.

School dropout maybe high. 

International labour organisation- it is a United Nations agency to advance social and economic justice through setting International labour standard. 

Founded in 1919.

The ILO’s International labour standards are are broadly aimed at ensuring accessible productive and sustainable workpro worldwide in condition of freedom equality security and dignity.

UNICEF- United Nations children's fund founded 11 December 1946 as United Nations International children's emergency fund. 

Headquarter in New York. It is a specialised agency of UN.

Responsible for providing material and developmental aid to children worldwide. 

UNICEF activities include immunizations and disease presentation administering treatment for children and mothers. 

Child labour and India- 

The India has taken several step to stop child labour these are as follows- 

The factories Act of 1948- prohibits the employment of children below the age of 14 years in factory.

Mines act of 1952- prohibits employment of children below 18 years of age in mine.

The child and adolescent labour (prohibition and regulation) Act 1986- defined child is any person below age of 14. also prohibits employment of a child in unemployment including as a domestic help (except helping on family in non hazardous occupation)

Right of children to free and compulsory education act 2009- lamented free and compulsory education to all children age 6 to 14 years.

The child labour (protection and regulation) amendment Act 2016 received the accent of president on 29th July 2016, it is amended by 1986 act. New act included the prohibition of adolescent in hazardous occupation.

Center’s direction to state that returning labours may be deployed for jal jeevan mission work. 

What More to do- 

  1. Direct transfer of 40 % of School fee of vulnerable Child fee to school organisation account. 
  2. Additional 10 % of school fee for girl child 
  3. Reduce teachers burden of extra work after Jul- Aug 20
  4. Enhance the school facilities and sheets. 
  5. More teachers in rural areas.
  6. Sensitize people  about the education and drawback of child labour. 
  7. UNICEF to help poor and developing countries.
  8. Universal Basic Income
