1. 14 July 1789 - outbreak of French revolution.
Cause- society was divided into classes/ estate. Two privilege classes are Clergy and nobility known as first estate and second estate, exempted from taxes.
Third estate - rest of the people, 95% of total population.
17th June 1789 - member of third estate declared themselves as the national assembly .
They started out on constitution and all were arrested.
The people joined and surrounded Bastille, a prison on 14 July. They broke the prison.The Fall of bestille symbolised The Fall of autocracy.
National assembly adopted the famous declaration of rights of man and citizen, equality of all men before law, eligibility of all citizens for all public offices, freedom of speech etc.
The French revolution gave the term nation its modern meaning. A nation is not the territory that the people belonging to it inhabit but the people themselves.
